Teacher's Bedroom Makeover Honors Educators
One of the most special ways I've been able to give back was during Teacher Appreciation Week at my children's school in Spring, Texas. As a mother who's seen firsthand how much teachers pour into our kids--often with little recognition--I wanted to do something meaningful. So I partnered with the principal and donated a full master bedroom makeover to one lucky teacher.
The principal had all the faculty drop their names into a jar, and we pulled a winner during the week's festivities. The teacher who won was beyond shocked and so deserving. Her reaction was priceless--she said she'd never won anything in her life, let alone a new bedroom! We refreshed everything: furniture, bedding, paint, window treatments--you name it.
What motivated me? Just a genuine love for educators. They're often the unsung heroes in our communities, and I wanted her to feel valued and celebrated in a space that was peaceful and beautiful--somewhere she could recharge after pouring so much into others.
Giving back like this reminds me why I started Design on a Dime Interiors in the first place--to serve people in ways that truly matter. Sometimes the best designs come from the heart, not just the budget.
Nonprofit Secures Funding Through Pro Bono Writing
At Write Right, we believe in using words for impact, not just business. One of the most fulfilling experiences was helping a small nonprofit struggling to raise funds. They had a powerful mission but lacked the storytelling skills to connect with donors.
We stepped in pro bono, refining their brand message and crafting compelling grant proposals. Within months, they secured significant funding, allowing them to expand their programs. What motivated me? The belief that great writing can change lives.
Giving back through our expertise isn't just charity—it's a responsibility. When you have a skill that can amplify someone's voice, you don't keep it to yourself. You use it to uplift others.
Consulting Skills Combat Local Homelessness Crisis
Volunteering my skills has always been something close to my heart, not just for personal growth but also for the tangible impact it can create in the community. A memorable experience was when I offered pro bono consulting services to a local non-profit dedicated to combating homelessness. The organization struggled with outdated systems and inefficient processes, and they were in dire need of strategic advice to optimize their operations. By assessing their operational workflows and implementing more streamlined processes, they were able to service more individuals in need without additional overhead.
The motivation behind offering my skills for free stemmed from witnessing the growing homelessness issue in my city and feeling a strong sense of responsibility to contribute towards a solution. After weeks of collaboration, seeing the organization help more people and operate more efficiently was truly rewarding. The experience was a stark reminder that professional skills can be powerful tools for social change. Offering one's expertise on a pro bono basis is not only an investment in the community but also a fulfillment of our civic duties to help where we can.

Boosting Local Bookstore's Online Presence
Absolutely. I recall working with a local independent bookstore that was struggling to broaden their online presence. We offered our services pro bono to assist them in reaching a larger audience. I believe strongly in supporting local businesses and cultural hubs, and this was an opportunity for Talks Media Group to give back to the community that has fostered our own growth.
